Paula McGee earned
a Master of Divinity from the Interdenominational Theological Center and a
Master of Arts in Religion from Vanderbilt University. She recently received
her Ph.D. in Women’s Studies in Religion at Claremont Graduate University. She
is a recipient of the 2009 Fund for Theological Education dissertation
fellowship and one of the few women ordained in the Baptist Church.
At the
University of Southern California, McGee and her twin sister teamed up with
Cheryl Miller and Cynthia Cooper to win two back-to-back National Championships
in 1983 and 1984. After college she embarked upon a professional career that
included a tryout with the Harlem Globetrotters and a season with the Dallas
Diamonds of the Women's American Basketball Association. She also played five
seasons in Italy and Spain where she learned both the Spanish and Italian
languages. She started a sports management agency and represented her twin
sister in the inaugural season of the WNBA. She was also the co-founder of
Christian Business Success Network, a nonprofit organization that specialized
in training and providing support for Christian business leaders. McGee ended
her successful sports career in order to pursue her life’s calling to preach.
Today, McGee
is a dynamic preacher, writer, and inspirational speaker. She is a freelance writer and served for
three years as the Book Editor for the National
Baptist Voice Magazine. She founded
the Paula McGee Ministries, Inc and served as President and CEO from 1998
through 2003. She served as Dean of Chapel at Fisk University in Nashville
1998-1999 and was Assistant to the Pastor at Pleasant Green Baptist Church in
Nashville 1993-1996.
McGee was
instructor at the United Methodist Course of Study during three summers and was
Adjunct Professor at the University of LaVerne during the fall of 2006. She
also held teaching positions at LaSierra University, Pomona College, and Victor
Valley Community College.
She has
two published sermons, a book review and other publications. She has presented
at academic conferences that include the American Academy of Homiletics and the
Western Commission for the Study of Religion. She has also presented several
classroom lectures and other public presentations. She is very involved in community service and
is a member of several professional organizations.
